The relationship between artists and fans can be very special. We can't think of a better example of this than Kesha and her fans yesterday over on her Instagram.
As you're probably aware, Kesha has been locked into a bitter legal battle with her ex-manager and producer, Dr Luke, who Kesha has accused of sexual assault, along with allegations regarding some very shady business practice. To read the allegations in full, we'd recommend you do so over here. Warning: it's very bleak.
As a consequence of that lawsuit and contracts that essentially prohibit Kesha from working with any other producers or labels, Kesha has been unable to perform or record any new music. She's stuck in limbo. The only light for Kesha during this dark time has been her relationship with her fans, who have been supporting her using the #FreeKesha hashtag.
After years of being unable to work, a decision was due today on the outcome of the lawsuit.
It all started with this post in anticipation of the decision.
Due to the bad weather in the states, the court date had to be pushed back at the last minute. Many fans had decided to travel to the courtroom to show their support for Kesha (which is just about the sweetest thing a fan could do, really).
And so, Kesha wrote this back to those fans, who made the trip. It's super emotional and heartbreaking.
Seriously, to be willing to travel to support an artist in that way, at what must be one of the toughest moments of their life, is a really powerful symbol of support and love between fans and artists. It's giving us chills just thinking about it.
We're hoping this can all be resolved soon so Kesha can get back to doing what she does best. Her fans, and the wider pop world, sorely miss her fun and unique voice and personality. A new court date has been set to February 19th.
