The Internet Is Very Angry With Meghan Trainor And You Probably Should Be Too

"Add it to the list why she is NOT a positive role model for women..."
Meghan Trainor has upset both fans and passers-by alike with her really bloody stupid comments surrounding the current US Presidential debate.
Life has been good to Meghan recently - she scored two Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 with her singles from her album "Thank You", she managed to style out the world's most amazing live-on-tv fall and she landed the cover of Billboard magazine.
Meghan was interviewed by Billboard for their most recent issue. She was asked about a number of things including her love-life, her outspoken personality and of course, her thoughts on the current political climate. The latter is where she messes up.
I should be way more aware, and if it was [Clinton] or Trump, I'd definitely vote for her. But I've never voted and I don't have any desire to.

Meghan, gurl... no. Please delete this.
Needless to say, the internet was fuming after reading her response.
.@Meghan_Trainor telling @billboard that she has "no desire" to vote is the most irresponsible thing I've heard all week. #norolemodel

.@Meghan_Trainor not voting is incredibly irresponsible and you should be ashamed of yourself. Absolutely shameful.

Admitting you don't vote is by no means a redeeming trait. #MeghanTrainor

It's like each week we see more and more irresponsible celebrity behavior. Don't get me started on Meghan Trainor having no desire to vote.

Look, Meghan is a grown up and she can say and do whatever she wants. There's never an obligation to vote and failing to exercise the *privilege* is completely up to you but admitting that you have never and have "no desire" to ever vote on a public platform as big as hers is one of the most problematic things Meghan has ever done.
As this Huffington Post article points out, the Billboard profile makes a point of noting that she is “an approachable role model for girls.” Meghan has nearly 8 million followers on Twitter and Instagram, thousands of them young impressionable teen girls that will no doubt follow her on tour and many of whom will be eligible to vote in November for the first time in their lives.
What message does that send to all her young female fans? Women's issues, LGBTQ+ rights and gun control are on the line in this election - three things she claims to be an advocate of. She should be ENCOURAGING young females to vote, not promoting apathy at such an important period in US history for the younger generation.
Do better, Meghan. It's not cute to be blasé over something this important.
