Not only that but the dating rumours...
Nicki Minaj is currently in the process of preparing to release her highly anticipated fourth studio album Queen. The LP is set to come out August 10th and so far it's been preceded by the hit singles 'Chun-Li' and 'Bed' (feat. Ariana Grande)' and the teaser tracks 'Rich Sex (feat. Lil Wayne)' and 'Barbie Tingz'. On top of that, Nicki has also been collaborating with stars including the likes of Ella Mai, Post Malone and YG.

Much of her recent output has earned critical acclaim. However, not all of Nicki's recent features have been so well received. Just yesterday, she dropped a new single and video with 6ix9ine called 'FEFE'. In spite of his huge success ('Gummo' was a US Top 20 hit), the 22-year-old is widely criticised. Reports recently surfaced that in 2015, he pled guilty to 'use of a child in a sexual performance'.
It's easy to understand why fans of the Nicki aren't happy about the new collaboration. To add insult to injury, the 'Moment 4 Life' rapper has been actively endorsing 6ix9ine on social media, with people even speculating that they could be dating.
6ix9ine was reportedly kidnapped, pistol whipped and robbed this weekend. When Nicki shared a clip of the 'FEFE' video on Instagram, 6ix9ine commented: "You still love me after I got beat up?" and Nicki replied "Fa sho. Tru love lasts forever".
Nicki appears to be joking like she has done so with Quavo and Eminem before but fans still aren't impressed.
Here are just a few of the reactions to 'FEFE':

did I really just watch a video where Nicki Minaj plays paddycake and eats ice cream cones with an alleged pedophile in an atmosphere that looks like a children’s birthday party or did I have a stroke?!— jourdain garbage file (@jourdayen) July 23, 2018

Of course, fans have been quick to praise Nicki's verse (the song is already Top 5 on US iTunes) but this does not negate the fact that working with 6ix9ine is problematic. It is worth pointing out though that Nicki is not alone. She's one of many artists in the music industry who's worked with someone who's been charged with or accused of sexual misconduct and/or abuse recently.
Offset and Young Thug have both worked with 6ix9ine too. Musicians including the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Khalid have collaborated with Rich the Kid (Rich has been accused of abusing and forcing his ex wife to have abortions). Not to mention, Kodak Black (who's been accused of rape) co-wrote and featured on an official remix of Cardi B's single 'Bodak Yellow'.
And that's just in hip-hop. This issue goes beyond Nicki and 6ix9ine and it's important that, just as we call out and question Nicki, we call out and question others.
Nicki is yet to respond to the 'FEFE' backlash. We shall keep you informed with any updates.
