PLAYLIST: 10 Super Talented Women Who Are Slaying 2016

All killer, no filler playlist coming at ya!
There are some ladies killing it out there when it comes to music right now (and everything else tbh but let's stick with music for the moment).
And we don't just mean your Rihanna's, Beyoncé's or Ariana's. There are so many women on the fringes of the mainstream (or complete newbies) releasing amazing music that we thought we'd curate a short playlist to bring them to your attention, if you haven't had a chance to get to know them already.
We LOVE hearing your music suggestions too so let us know who we've missed. Maybe we'll put them on our monthly new music round up or in our audio stream!
1) Grimes - "Kill V Maim"
We couldn't really start with anyone else, could we? Grimes is K.I.L.L.I.N.G it at the moment. Her DIY approach to making leftfield pop music came into its own on her latest album Art Angels and the live shows do not disappoint either. Make sure you catch her at the (many) festivals she's playing this summer.
2) Sheer Mag - "Can't Stop Fighting"
We're obsessed with this band. Fronted by Tina Halladay, they sound like Thin Lizzy if they went punk. Beyond the stylish guitar licks and feisty attitude, "Can't Stop Fighting" is a song that rages against sexual assault: "Paloma walks home at night from the maquiladora, 8 days later, no one has saw her, sometimes she worked late, don't that show you just whats at stake? We can't stop fighting." "Cry Baby" this ain't.
3) Terror Jr - "3 Strikes"
People reacted with mild terror when they thought this song, which was used for an advert for Kylie Jenner's lip gloss, was a single recorded by Jenner herself. It is, in fact, recorded by 'mystery' artist Terror Jr. We know literally nothing about her but it's a banging tune. Fans of Kiiara or Halsey might appreciate its bleepy goodness.
4) Santigold - "I Can't Get Enough Of Myself"
Santigold's latest album 99c is a remarkable and exciting return to form for the New York native. It defies all genre definitions and totally exceeded our (quite high) expectations. The lead single dropped ages ago but it's still on constant repeat in the PB office (you can also find it on our audio stream at the top right of this page on desktop or in our app!)
5) Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me"
We've been obsessed with Alvvays for a while now (this song is actually from WAY BACK in 2014). The Canadian five-piece, lead by singer/guitarist Molly Rankin, are preparing for album number two by supporting Tame Impala and Chvrches this spring, so it felt fitting to include them on this list. This is an indie anthem up there with the best.
6) Let's Eat Grandma - "Deep Six Textbook"
Rosa and Jenny are 16 and 17 respectively, from Norwich in the UK. Comparisons have already been made to early Arcade Fire and St Vincent, so no pressure girls! "Deep Six Textbook" is only their second single but the music press have already tipping them for big things.
7) Mitski - "Your Best American Girl"
The video for this song dropped today (13 April) and we fell in love with it instantly. There's a little bit of The Breeders in this track, especially because of the iconic quiet-loud-quiet grunge formula being used. We're definitely ready for a grunge revival so we'll be keeping our eye on Mitski this year.
8) GIRLI - "Girls Get Angry Too"
GIRLI ain't f*cking around. On the latest, grime-tinged track from the London native, she spits on the opening line, "Don't tell me I'm super cute, I'm a samurai princess, I'll smash you". The rest of the track is as abrasive as it is addictive. One for the Brooke Candy fans out there (we know you're out there!).
9) Nite Jewel - "Boo Hoo"
Nite Jewel has been slogging it out in the pop-sphere for a while. She's now releasing her new album Liquid Cool via her own record label and the lead single might be her strongest song to date. Imagine if Grimes & Michael Jackson went on a date and ending up making a beat together? Imagine no longer.
10) Chløë Black - "Groupie"
Originally from California but now residing in London, Chløë has got the alt-pop thing down to an art. It's a little bit Joan Jett, it's a little bit Sleigh Bells, and this track shows a lot of promise for a banging EP/album to follow.
