When people take things way too far...

It's hard not to get invested in celebrity gossip. I, myself, haven't gone an hour without thinking about the Kardashians in about 10 years. It's fine.  But, when being invested turns into something more sinister, it can be scary and horrifying for the celebrity in question.

Enter Bella Thorne, 19-year-old former Disney star and current lead on the upcoming drama, Famous In Love.

Dating other high profile performers comes with the territory so, when Bella and Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey became "a thing", people got invested. Too invested. When the pair split after a short dalliance and Bella was linked to professional Nice Guy™ Charles Puth, people thought Bella was cheating and many quickly turned on her.

In a new interview with People, Bella explains that people weren't just sending mean messages, they were actually threatening her life.

[I] was getting death threats for a hot minute because they thought I had cheated on my ex, which is a total lie.

People take social media as such a big thing. And they all think they know what they’re talking about. And they think they know your life and they get their friends to trash you. And they get all these people to hate on you and call you whatever names in the book.

Can you imagine sending a death threat to a stranger because they stopped dating a stranger and hooked up with a different stranger? In the immortal words of Little Mix, "you gotta not."

As for being linked to a bunch of guys? Bella says she's a tomboy and just genuinely enjoys the company of dudes. Which is fair enough. Whether they're dating or not should be a confirmation from camp Bella instead of the whole world just guessing.

Bella says she's back in her happy place again after that nightmare episode. Let's make 2017 the year we stop sending death threats to people!
