Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar will be the first musicals available.
Theatres around the world have stopped their live performances because of the current coronavirus pandemic. However, that doesn't mean we still can't catch our favourite musicals, right?
Universal have launched a new YouTube channel and answered our prayers. The Show Must Go On will soon be the home of several Broadway and West End musical productions, which will be available for a limited time only. A new show will be uploaded every Friday at 2pm ET/11am PT/7pm BST and you'll be able to watch it for free on YouTube for 48 hours. The channel will also share behind-the-scenes clips and big musical performances.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be the first musical on The Show Must Go On, dropping on Friday (April 3). Donny Osmond, Maria Friedman and Joan Collins star in the direct-to-video adaptation, which takes inspiration from the West End version.
The following Friday (April 10), which happens to fall on Good Friday, The Show Must Go On will release the 2012 UK arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, which stars Tim Minchin, Mel C, and Chris Moyles.
That's not the only way us theatre geeks can get our fix, though, BroadwayHD is offering a free 7-day trial for new viewers, with a $8.99 monthly fee if you want to continue. And, like Universal, London’s National Theatre will be sharing some of its productions on YouTube to keep us entertained while we're all staying at home.
