Grooveshark is dead.
The streaming site, which had been operating for nearly a decade, announced yesterday that it would be ceasing operations following a settlement with a number of large music entities.
We started out nearly ten years ago with the goal of helping fans share and discover music. But despite best of intentions, we made very serious mistakes. We failed to secure licenses from rights holders for the vast amount of music on the service.
Grooveshark
Grooveshark was a definite hangover from the old world before the rise of paid services. The site survived way passed its sell-by date and for that we are grateful.
The site allowed users to stream music (often times full albums) in the same way you continue do something even when you're 100% sure it's illegal/bad news.
Grooveshark was a company built around the "NO COPYRIGHT INTENDED" disclaimer 13 year olds put in the descriptions of youtube videos
