Cameron Boyce passed away on 6 July 2019.

Dove Cameron has decided to honour her friend and Descendants co-star Cameron Boyce with a touching tribute tattoo. In July, Cameron passed away aged 20 after having a seizure in his sleep. Fans and celebrities lead tributes for the Disney star, including Dove, who he was very close to.

Dove shared the moment she got the tattoo with Vogue, who followed the actress for a whole day for their 24 Hours series. During filming for the day, Dove stopped by a tattoo parlour and revealed she was getting a tattoo in honour of Cameron.

"I am getting my 11th tattoo today," she announced. "I really do get them so often that this really is a day in the life for me. I've settled on that I want to get a single needle. Either like a pistol or a revolver or some type of fire arm, but I want it to have either a single rose or a little bouquet coming out of it."

Dove ended up getting the inking on the side of her wrist and she revealed that the tattoo actually holds a double meaning for her. "Because I'm very anti-gun, and I'm very pro-gun regulation," she explained. "It's sort of like a nationally recognised symbol for peace and for anti-gun movements. And also, my friend Cameron passed away a few months ago and he was starting this organisation called Wielding Peace.

"He wanted to get influential people holding things that sort of looked like they were in the shape of a gun, but then it would be artistic or peaceful. He did it with a bouquet of flowers actually, and I think that that's really beautiful and I've been trying to think of a tattoo to get for him since he passed, and I just felt that this one was really appropriate."

Dove has been open about her grieving process since Cameron's passing. The singer revealed she's currently in therapy and prioritising her mental health. And in an interview with E!'s Daily Pop one month after his death, she said: "Working with Cameron, you know, it's like working with your family, or like a really close friend – it's the most bizarre experience for it to be something so public because it's not like working with somebody who you worked with for a week and then telling your experience.

"It's like how do you speak about your experience with one of your favourite people, one of your people you feel closest to? He just was everything that everybody says he is. He was from someplace else. He was truly like a cosmic happening."
