Exciting! Or problematic?
Yesterday, January 21st, at approximately 9.05PM GMT, two worlds collided, when the official Covergirl Twitter tweeted this:
Today's news is too hot to handle—@Zendaya is joining the COVERGIRL family! #COVERGIRLZendaya pic.twitter.com/2q7O7y9YRH

Congratulations to the queen!
As you may have noticed, we've been stanning pretty hard for Zendaya and her flawless makeup skills here at PopBuzz. And let's just say that the announcement resolved a few bets in the office.
But then we looked closer at the pictures...
This is what Zendaya looks like in the campaign photos:
Those brows, that lipstick, that cat eye…new COVERGIRL @Zendaya = makeup game on point. #COVERGIRLZendaya pic.twitter.com/YpO0mA6RSh

Flawless and magical, right?
And THIS is what she looks like in the raw, Photoshop-free pics on her Instagram.
Still pretty flawless, tbh. Is it us though, or did some editor somewhere in the Covergirl kingdom... lighten Zendaya's skin tone?
We're not sure, but this wouldn't be the first time this has happened in the beauty industry. Back in 2008, beauty giant L'Oreal came under fire for allegedly lightening Beyonce's campaign photos. Since then, several other brands have faced similar accusations.
So what do you think? Is this a case of whitewashing or are we just reading too much into it?
