Watch Billie Joe and the band tear it up outside their high school in 1990.
Everyone kinda knows that Green Day are rock legends. Heck, they were just recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. But of course, everybody starts somewhere; and this legendary trio actually started out 25 years ago in their high school's courtyard.
And guess what? There's video proof. A recording of one of Green Day's earliest gigs has been sitting quietly on YouTube since 2013, but has blown up this week after it was discovered by the Greater Internet. The 52-minute video shows Billy Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and Green Day's original drummer John Kiffmeyer rattling through tracks from the band's debut studio album 39/Smooth, onstage in front of Pinole Valley High School in California.
If you have an hour to sit back and watch the shoddy camerawork, 90s-quality video sound and some grungy fashion, check out the full gig footage below.
This is the sort of stuff any teen with an aspiring band needs to see. You might feel as though you need to reach the standard of your idols right away, but it's alright if you and your rock nerd friends spend a bit of time just tearing it up for your classmates. Because hey, apparently you could be Hall Of Fame material.
