Will 13 Reasons Why return for another season? People are already talking about the possibilities of a third season.

The second season of Netflix's controversial show 13 Reasons Why has only just dropped and there's already talk of a THIRD season have already started.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Television head Amy Power was asked if the studio, who helped create the show, would be open to creating a third season. "It's up to [showrunner] Brian [Yorkey]," she said. "We're not going to pressure him to create more seasons if he doesn't feel they are there, but he is already starting to think about what a season three could be."

Showrunner Brain Yorkey said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, that he thinks there will be more story to tell, which basically sounds like he's already made his mind up and that he wants season three to happen. "I always think there's more story to tell, but I think that depends on viewers and everyone's reaction to it and whether it's important to keep telling the story."

The show has been a huge success - it was one of the most watched shows on Netflix in 2017 - and so the temptation to make another season to cash in keep fans happy will be high. However, the show has seriously divided opinion, especially when it comes to its depictions of suicide and self-harm and the adverse effects that could be having on its viewers.

The real question is whether there is any need for it. The first season was based off the YA novel of the same name, and many felt that the first season said all it needed to say about the effects of bullying and the damaging consequences of sexual assault and suicide. We're certainly hoping that the upcoming season will take the show in a different direction. There's only so much trauma we can see inflicted upon the teen characters before it descends into needless gore and violence (and some would argue that has already happened), let alone a third helping of it.

According to Amy Powell season two "won't show another suicide", but, "there's new storytelling that is as provocative and unexpected", so figures crossed if season three is coming, it won't be a repeat of the scenes that got the show so much bad press in the first place. [H/T Pop Sugar]
