"I don’t know what I’m gonna do next with that show. I don’t know if I’ll accelerate another season or wait till next year to shoot this one."

If you're an American Horror Story fan waiting for news on whether or not AHS season 10 will be released this year, you might want to listen up because Ryan Murphy just updated us on the sitch.

AHS season 10 was scheduled to start shooting in April 2020, several months earlier than the usual July filming dates. Production was then put on hold due to the coronavirus crisis and it's still unclear exactly when it will be safe enough for the cast and crew to return to work.

As a result of that, Ryan Murphy is now considering changing the theme, or postponing the season until 2021, because season 10 was a "weather-dependent show".

In an interview with The Wrap, Murphy explained: “A lot of what I was going to shoot was dependent on a very specific moment,” Murphy said. “It was a weather-dependent show. So now I don’t know. I don’t know what we’re going to do. I don’t know what I’m gonna do next with that show. I don’t know if I’ll accelerate another season or wait till next year to shoot this one.”

Given how early production was starting on AHS season 10, it's likely that Murphy wanted to shoot on location just before summer kicked in. The grey beach town feel of the teasers we've seen so far definitely hints at a more somber setting, as opposed to the height of summer.

The fate of season 10 all comes down to when production will resume, and whether or not it's too late for Murphy to pull off his original season 10 idea. No decision has been made just yet, he revealed: “You know, nobody so far has called me up and said, ‘OK, we have a plan to move forward for shooting.'"

“So until that day, everybody is kind of on pause. I honestly don’t know. But it’s a great season and I know all the actors are chomping at the bit to get into it, so that’s all I know.”

If it's too late, we may get a new season with a completely different theme and cast, or we'll get no season this year at all, with the original season 10 theme airing in 2021.

Thankfully, the show has been renewed for another 3 seasons, so if Murphy does decide to change the theme at the last minute, it seems like he has plenty of other theme ideas to consider. Maybe he'll bring back the witches for that third Coven season he teased back in 2018?
