The Spanish language teen drama, 'Elite', comes to Netflix this Autumn. Here's what you need to know about the show that people are comparing to 'Gossip Girl' and 'SKAM'.

Netflix continues its international push into non-English language dramas with shows like Cable Girls and, now, Elite. Elite, a Spanish language high school drama which some are comparing to Gossip Girl and SKAM, pairs a young cast with a classic murder plot at the centre of its first series.

Elite hits Netflix October 5, but bold teasers and trailers promise plenty of intrigue before then. Looking for your next Gossip Girl flavoured obsession? Here's what you need to know about Elite ahead of its October premiere.

What is Elite on Netflix about?

Elite follows three students who receive scholarships to one of Spain's most exclusive schools, Las Encinas. Per Netflix's synopsis:

When three working class kids were given scholarships to Spain's most elite high school, they thought they were in for their big break. But when one of their classmates turns up dead, everyone is under question. Welcome to Las Encinas.

The bold teasers for the series hint at sex, drugs, and intense rivalries at Las Encinas. Students will be questioned about the death of their classmate, hinting at police interrogation being used as a Big Littlle Lies style storytelling device.

Elite is a Spanish language programme, however, English speakers can watch a dubbed version or a version with subtitles by changing the audio/subtitles settings on Netflix.

When does Elite premiere on Netflix?

Elite comes to Netflix on Friday, October 5. All eight episodes in the first series will be available to stream at once on Netflix.
