A new Prince Eric has arrived! Jonah Hauer-King may already have some pretty impressive credits to his name, but he will soon become known as one of Disney’s most iconic princes in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid. Jonah Hauer-King is British. He was born and raised in Islington, London, but his mother is American so he holds dual citizenship to the U.K. and the U.S. His father is English, and he was also raised Jewish. Speaking to Show Patrol in 2018, Jonah said: "Being American is definitely part of my identity. Jonah Hauer-King’s mother Debra Hauer is a former theatre director and producer who now works as a psycho-therapist. His father Jeremy King is a prominent London restaurateur. On top of acting, Jonah Hauer-King also graduated from St John’s College, Cambridge with a first class degree in theology and philosophy. Prior to landing the role of The Little Mermaid, Jonah Hauer-King was perhaps best known for his role as Harry Chase in BBC war drama series World on Fire (pictured). He also played Laurie in the 2017 TV adaptation of Little Women, Mo in The Flatshare and also had roles in films such as A Dog’s Way Home, This Is The Night and Postcards From London. He's next set to play young Lale Sokolov in The Tattooist of Auschwitz series. [BBC]
In November 2019, it was announced that Jonah Hauer-King would portray the live-action version of Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid. The audition process took around 6 or 7 months, and Jonah told BuzzFeed UK that he found out he landed the role via a phone call from director Rob Marshall who said, “Hello, it’s Rob Marshall, I’m looking for Prince Eric.” And the rest is history! Jonah Hauer-King is part of the exclusive club of actors who have played Laurie in various on-screen productions of Little Women (Christian Bale and Timothée Chalamet included.) Jonah played Laurie opposite Maya Hawke as Jo March and Kathryn Newton as Amy March in the 2017 adaptation. [BBC]
