Leif is based on the real-life Norse explorer of the same name, who is credited as the first European to have set foot on continental North America. Sam was cast in Vikings: Valhalla just after he'd finished Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but after playing Caliban, Sam had to spend the next four months putting on 22 pounds and training to get his Viking bod.
