19 December 2017, 16:46
Tom Holland is back as your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel sequel.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland's feature-length debut as the web-slinger, was one of the funniest, most action-packed and entertaining films of 2017 so it was great to hear that Marvel have announced that a sequel is on the way. Jon Watts will return as director.
So what can we expect from Spider-Man: Homecoming 2?
Here's everything we know so far:
What is the release date of the next Spider-Man movie?
The Spidey sequel is currently scheduled for a July 5th 2019 release.
What is the title of the next Spider-Man movie?
The official title won't be revealed until much nearer the release although the film reportedly currently has the working title of 'Fall Of George', a Seinfeld reference similar to Homecoming's working title of 'Summer Of George'. Not much we can read into that one except that it, um, takes place after the first one. Obviously.
Who is in the cast of the next Spider-Man movie?
Tom Holland is, thankfully, reprising his role as Peter Parker with Zendaya set to take a more central role as MJ. Jacob Batalon and Marisa Tomei should also be back as Ned and Aunt May respectively.
In terms of new characters, Gwen Stacy, the love interest most recently played by Emma Stone in the movie adaptations, is also said to be included, reimagined as a European exchange student. No word yet on who might be up for the role.
Plus, we are also hoping that Donald Glover's Aaron Davis - a.k.a. the Prowler - may return, perhaps even bringing his alluded to nephew, fellow comics crimefighter Miles Morales, along for the ride.
What is the plot of the next Spider-Man movie?
No real details yet but we do know that it will pick up minutes after the end of Avengers 4 which is released just two months earlier.
Will any of The Avengers be in the next Spider-Man movie?
That sort of depends how the upcoming Avengers movies play out but, tbh, we'd be pretty surprised if they did. The new Spidey film will kick over Phase 4 of the Marvel movies and, although, Robert Downey Jr stopped by in Homecoming to help ease Spidey into the Marvel cinematic universe, we are pretty Tom Holland will be able to stand on his own two feet.
