Netflix's 'The Prom' musical: Who is the cast and who are they playing?

1. Meet the cast of Netflix's The Prom.

When Ryan Murphy announced that he would be adapting hit Broadway musical The Prom into a film for Netflix, you just knew there would be a star-studded line-up taking part. Ryan will produce the movie with Alexis Woodall, Bill Damaschke and Dori Berinstein. Meanwhile, the script is the work of Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin.

2. Who will play Dee Dee Allen in The Prom? Meryl Streep.

Meryl Streep plays Dee Dee Allen, a two-time Tony winner and Barry Glickman's partner in a career-ending musical. As we all know, Meryl's kind of a big deal. She's had an acting career spanning decades and has starred in 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Mamma Mia'.

3. Who will play Barry Glickman in The Prom? James Corden.

James Corden plays Barry Glickman, Dee Dee Allen's partner in a flop musical about Eleanor Roosevelt. After terrible reviews, Barry and Dee go on a mission to get their careers off of the ground again with the help of some Broadway stars. Of course, you'll know James from 'The Late Late Show with James Corden', but he's also acted in 'Gavin & Stacey' and 'Smallfoot'.

4. Who will play Emma Nolan in The Prom?

Emma Nolan is a high school senior in Indiana, who ends up having her prom cancelled when she tries to take her girlfriend. However, the role of Emma hasn't been filled just yet. Casting director Alexa Fogel is on a nationwide hunt to fill the position.

5. Who will play Alyssa in The Prom? Ariana Grande.

Ariana Grande was thought to be playing the role of Alyssa, a popular teen, daughter of the head of the PTA and Emma Nolan's secret girlfriend. However, according to reports from Billboard, Ariana will no longer be taking part because it conflicts with her tour schedule.

6. Who will play Angie Dickinson in The Prom? Nicole Kidman.

Nicole Kidman will play Angie Dickinson, a Broadway veteran and friend of Trent Oliver, Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman. Nicole is an acting legend and is currently starring on the successful HBO series 'Big Little Lies'. She's also been in 'Aquaman' and 'Moulin Rouge!'

7. Who will play Trent Oliver in The Prom? Andrew Rannells.

Andrew Rannells plays Trent Oliver, an actor and friend of Barry Glickman and Dee Dee Allen, who gets on board with their idea to kickstart their careers again. You'll probably recognise Andrew from 2018 movie 'A Simple Favor', 'Girls' and 'The New Normal'.

8. Who will play Tom Hawkins in The Prom? Keegan-Michael Key.

Keegan-Michael Key will play Tom Hawkins, the Principal of the Indiana high school that won't allow Emma Nolan to attend prom with her girlfriend. He is also the love interest of Dee Allen. You might recognise Keegan-Micheal from his iconic sketch show alongside Jordan Peele, 'Key & Peele'.
