For the past few seasons, Game of Thrones fans have been wondering if Arya and Gendry would ever get their romantic reunion in season 8. In episode 2, they finally got their answer...

Over the years, Game of Thrones has given us some iconic and game-changing couple moments - and some pretty explicit sex scenes. And in season 8, episode 2, they may have just delivered one of the most unexpected sex scenes of them all.

The second episode of the final season acted as the last chance for all our favourite characters to reunite and have some fun before the big Battle of Winterfell. There was revelations, there was a lot of drinking and there was a sense of carnal desire in the air - particularly for one miss Arya Stark.

Foreshadowed by Robert Baratheon in season one, the union of a Stark and a Baratheon was always on the cards for Game of Thrones. While we were all thinking it would be Sansa and Joffrey (who never did it and technically, was never a Baratheon anyway), it was actually his bastard son Gendry and Arya Stark who came through with the prophecy and finally had sex in episode 2.

Yes, Gendry and Arya finally got together but the scene was much much more raunchy than any of us were ever expecting.

Before you start going off on one, here's a little explainer about Arya's age. In season 1, Arya is supposed to be around 11 years old. If we consider that the show moves at around one year per season, the youngest Stark daughter should be about 18 years old by now. Gendry is older than Arya. In the books, he's five years older. In the show, it's implied he's about 8 or 9 years older.

For years fans have been hoping that Arya and Gendry would hook up in the final season but the scene was completely unexpected (honestly, we were just expecting Arya's first kiss!) and everyone absolutely lost it.

How exactly is Jon Snow related to Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones?

From the build up and their undeniable chemistry to the absolute iconic confidence of Arya taking control of the situation, here are all the best reactions to Gendrya's long awaited sex scene.

That weapon Arya wanted? Definitely not a spear!

Arya really wasn't about to waste her last hours on this earth talking to The Hound.

Things of Arya Stark's to do list: Kill Cersei, kill The Mountain, defeat the Night King, check how many women Gendry has slept with...

She did THAT.

Of course, some people were absolutely LIVING for the union.

Others were far to concerned about the age difference between the two characters, and the fact that their sweet baby Arya was about to have sex on screen.

Honestly, this relationship has been slow burn excellence.

If Ned Stark was alive to hear about this, Gendry would be toast right about now!

If they survive this war, Gendry's sex life is about to get a WHOLE lot spicier.

Speaking about the scene to Entertainment Weekly, Maisie Williams says the show runners let her decide how much Arya was going to show on screen.

“David and Dan were like: ‘You can show as much or as little as you want,’” Williams says. “So I kept myself pretty private. I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that. And everybody else has already done it on the show, so
 “

And as for that rare display of vulnerability coming from Arya in that moment? “It was really interesting because it’s a very human relationship for Arya,” Williams said.

“This is something she’s stayed away from, an emotion we’ve never really seen her engage with. David and Dan were like, ‘It’s the end of the world, what else would you have her do?’ This may be is a moment where Arya accepts death tomorrow, which she never does — ‘Not Today.’ So it was that moment where she says, ‘We’re probably going to die tomorrow, I want to know what this feels like before that happens.’ It’s interesting to see Arya be a bit more human, speak more normally about things people are scared of.”

Honestly? Gendrya forever.
