Big Red is queer and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series fans love how Larry Saperstein's character came out.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series fans are praising the way in which Big Red comes out in the season 3 finale.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 3 has multiple important queer storylines. From Nini meeting her gay biological dad to Maddox's relationship with Madison, the hit series continues to go above and beyond when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation. Not to mention, Ashlyn comes out as queer in one of the most touching scenes in the show.

Now, Ashlyn's boyfriend Big Red has come out as bi and viewers are living for the way in which he reveals his sexuality.

Is Big Red bi in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series?

Ashlyn and Big Red spend most of HSMTMTS season 3 apart. Big Red doesn't spend his summer at Camp Shallow Lake with the rest of our East High faves and he misses Ashlyn discovering that she has feelings for girls. When he visits the camp in the season finale to watch his friends perform, Ashlyn wants to tell him the truth.

It seems that Ashlyn wants to end things with Big Red so that she can explore her sexuality. However, before Ashlyn gets a chance to say anything, Big Red lets her know that being apart has made him certain that he loves her and wants to stay with her. As a result, Ashlyn loses her courage and decides not to come out to him or break up with him.

Meanwhile, all summer long, our East High faves have been filming a Camp Shallow Lake documentary and, at the end of the episode, they are shown the trailer for it. To their surprise, the trailer has been edited like a reality show, and in and amongst, all the fabricated drama, Big Red introduces himself and comes out as bisexual in doing so.

Speaking to camera at the end of the trailer, Big Red, who isn't at the trailer premiere, says: "Hi, I'm Big Red. I'm Ashlyn's boyfriend and I'm bi!" Reacting Ricky says, "Good for him!" Shocked, Ashlyn gets up and says: "I'm calling Big Red." Season 3 then ends with Gina confessing her love for Ricky and Ricky kissing her in response.

Naturally, fans are losing it over Big Red coming out. One fan tweeted: "THAT WAS AMAZING HOLY FUCK. SCREAMING AND CRYING OMG".

Another added: "ashlyn and big red reuniting just to tell each other that they’re both gay as fuck is my favorite thing ever actually."

Fans of Ashlyn and Big Red will no doubt already know that the actors who play them are also queer in real life. Julia Lester is pansexual and Larry Saperstein came out as bisexual on TikTok in 2021.

We can't wait to see how Ashlyn and Big Red's story develops in season 4.
