Why did Sherif leave Love Island? Viewers are convinced they know which rule he broke

Sherif Lanre has been kicked off Love Island for "breaking the rules" but viewers are confused as to the exact reason why.

Yesterday (Jun 12), ITV revealed that Love Island 2019 contestant Sherif had been removed from the villa and axed from the show. However, they never properly explained why. In an official statement, Sherif said: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa." Naturally, the internet was quick to come up with theories and memes and now it looks as though we may know why Sherif left.

Why did Sherif Lanre leave Love Island? What rule did he break?

As soon as the news broke out, Love Island viewers began to peruse the rules to decipher why Sherif was booted off. Two of the main rules are: no nudity in front of each other (or at all, it's actually discouraged in the shower) and no masturbation. It's pretty wild but the rule has led some viewers to believe that Sherif was caught masturbating in the jacuzzi or the pool? Now, while this could be possible, it seems pretty likely that it's just speculation.

Another theory which is going round is that Sherif got kicked off the show for having a fight with Anton and it's backed up by an alleged leaked screenshot of a conversation between Sherif and an anonymous friend. In the screenshot, Sherif is asked: "what happened" and he replies: Anton happened. Purposely moving to Anna while I’m right next to him trying to touch her leg."

Sherif then allegedly added: “Asked him for a chat in private because I wanted to confront him and it got heated and security had to split us up, heartbroken but shit happens man.” There are also rumours that Anton said something racist and Sherif hit him. However, in this scenario Anton should have been axed too. Violence and racist slurs are banned in the villa.

That being said, there is a high chance that the screenshot is fake and the real reason behind Sherif leaving could be entirely different. Love Island has a long list of rules which include contestants not being allowed to smoke outside the designated smoking area or use their phones outside of official Love Island texts. For now, the mystery remains unsolved.
