James Scully confirms Forty is not straight in You season 2 on Netflix

Forty never states if he is straight, gay or otherwise in You season 2 on Netflix and now James Scully has opened up about it.

James Scully has responded to comments from You fans assuming that Forty is straight in season 2 of the hit Netflix series.

You returned to Netflix with its second season last month (Dec 26) and a brand new set-up for Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). After murdering Beck (Elizabeth Lail) in season 1 and successfully covering it up, season 2 sees Joe move to LA in a bid to hide from his ex Candace (Ambyr Childers). He then becomes obsessed with aspiring chef Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).

Just like season 1, You season 2 is filled with stalking, killing and plenty of shock twists. Love's co-dependent brother Forty (James Scully) also plays a key part in it. Candace finds Joe in LA and pretends to be a film producer called Amy. She then starts dating Forty before all hell breaks loose. Many fans assumed that Forty is straight because of this but... he's not.

In a recent Q&A via Netflix's official You Instagram account, James Scully answered fan questions about the series and what his experience was like filming season 2. One fan asked: "Since you're queer, what made you guys decided Forty would be straight?" James then shut down the claim, responding: "We didn't, and he wasn't, and he's not, and he never will be."

Discussing Forty's sexuality further with Entertainment Tonight, James was asked if there were conversations about making Forty pansexual. He then replied: "There actually was. I definitely had jobs before where that was a point of contention, but that's when I was like, I'm just not focusing on this. Then four episodes in, they gave me a girlfriend and I was like, oh cool."

James then continued to state: "I think Forty would have sex with whoever he decided he wanted to have sex with. And it was nice being able to play the character even if I was realising retroactively that [he] was sexually fluid where we didn't need to stress that in any way. It was what it was and he was who he was."
