People are calling Netflix's 'Abducted in Plain Sight' the "most messed up" documentary ever

'Abducted in Plain Sight' on Netflix tells the story of Jan Broberg, a girl who is kidnapped by a family friend named Robert "B" Berchtold in the 1970s. Jan Broberg's parents and siblings, as well as the law enforcement professionals who worked on the case, recount the unbelievable sequence of events at the heart of this chilling documentary.

Netflix recently brought Abducted in Plain Sight, a 2017 documentary about an unbelievable kidnapping saga, to the platform and viewers are taken aback at the story told in the 90 minute feature. Viewers are calling Abducted In Plain Sight the "wildest" and "most messed up" doc they've ever seen and it's easy to understand why.

What is Abducted in Plain Sight about?

In the 1970s, the Broberg family, became close to Robert Berchtold and his family after meeting them in church one Sunday. The Brobergs' eldest daughter Jan recounts being kidnapped by Robert Berchtold more than once. Jan's parents also unravel a story involving both of them having sexual encounters with Robert Berchtold.

The documentary is put together with interviews from Jan, her family members, Berchtold's brother, and law enforcement familiar with the kidnapping incidents. Home videos are also interwoven with reenactments and audio recordings from the time.

True crime fans will know that documentaries in the genre can often take intense and dramatic turns, but the details at the heart of Abducted in Plain Sight had fans questioning everything from the parents' naiveté to Robert Berchtold, himself.

It's safe to say that viewers reacted strongly to the harrowing sequence of events.

And people couldn't get past how trusting Jan's parents were.

Everything from Jan's parents waiting to call the police when she was abducted to their unusual relationships with Robert rendered fans shocked.

At the end of the documentary, Jan explains that she doesn't blame her parents. "Yes, they made mistakes. But it's one thing to make a mistake, kind of, as two innocent people. It's another thing to make a mistake when somebody is orchestrating you and playing your emotions and feelings."

Abducted in Plain Sight tells a chilling story that will undoubtedly leave you with more questions than answers. Be warned, the documentary does discuss rape, pedophilia, grooming, and other difficult topics.
