Marvel's 'The Defenders' Might Have Just Been Cancelled By Netflix

The show's Facebook page has been replaced by a new subdivision of content called 'NX'.
Netflix might have just quietly hinted that Marvel's The Defenders won't be returning for another season. Yep, the ambitious crossover event that involved Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage might have just been cancelled for good.
Fans noticed yesterday (September 18) that Netflix had rebranded the official The Defenders Facebook page to 'NX,' a new a subdivision dedicated to what people are calling "geek-centric content." While the The Defenders’ Facebook page has now been changed to 'NX', the official Twitter page still remains.
As it stands, there's been no confirmation that the series has officially been cancelled but it's long been maintained that The Defenders was never meant to be a traditional multi-season series. Krysten Ritter, who plays Jessica Jones, said the show was only meant to be a one time thing.
“I had a great time doing The Defenders and honestly, it was such a good experience that I would even do it again,” she told Vulture. “I don’t think we are doing it again. It was never intentioned to do it again, but, you know, if I was given another opportunity, I would.”
Another season seemed like a possibility after head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb hinted that the show could possibly return. During a Reddit AMA, he wrote: "Not in the plans right now, but you never know!"
But despite all that, fans are furious at Netflix for appearing to 'cancel' the show without an official announcement - and for completely wiping out it's entire existence on Facebook.

As someone who works in social media, I’m cringing so hard over this. @netflix removed all existing Defenders content, so it’s not even a rebrand, it’s erasing the existence and purpose of the original page. pic.twitter.com/hCsDPLqtWm

.
The show brought together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage but, despite the popularity of the original series, it never quite took off as well as hoped. In fact, it was the least watched Marvel series on Netflix.
But, while it looks like The Defenders might never return, the stand alone shows are all safe. Jessica Jones will be returning for a third season soon, Daredevil season 3 is expected to be released in 2018, Iron Fist season 2 dropped on September 7 and Luke Cage, Netflix's highest rated Marvel show, is still awaiting renewal for a third season.
