People Are Screaming At A Joke About Panic! & Bisexuality In 'Alex Strangelove'

Netflix's latest LGBTQ teen film is getting a huge reaction online.
Alex Strangelove might have taken ten years to make but it's been an immediate hit with viewers since it dropped on Netflix last Friday (June 8).
The film follows Alex Truelove, played by Daniel Doheny, a high school senior who's planning on losing his virginity to girlfriend Claire (Madeline Weinstein) but things get complicated when he meets Elliot (Antonio Marziale), a handsome and charming gay kid from the other side of town, who unwittingly sends Alex on a rollercoaster journey of sexual identity.
There are a load of great moments in the film (we were literally dying at Elliot's lip sync to The B52's) but one scene involving Panic! At The Disco is making people scream.
Be warned hennies: if you haven't watched the film yet there are some mild spoilers below.
After Alex meets Elliot at a party, it's obvious to both of them that there's a connection and so the next day Elliot invites Alex to see a band in Brooklyn (side note: that band is actually our queer pop faves MUNA).
Alex and Elliot grab some food after the show and take a walk by the river. At one point, it looks like Elliot is about to lean in for a kiss but Alex gets hella awkward and says that it's getting late and that they should probably head home.
Honestly, it had us all kinda of fucked up.
The next day Alex confesses to his best friend Dell, played by Daniel Zolghadri, that he thinks he might be bisexual. Dell doesn't deal with the situation in the best way and tells Alex that he doesn't believe him. Then Dell comes out with possibly the best line in the whole damn film.
To establish if Alex is *really* bisexual he asks: "Do you listen to Panic! At The Disco while jerking off to pictures of vampires?"
We are SCREAMING.
As most fans will know, the Panic! gag isn't totally random. Panic! At The Disco's 'Girls/Girls/Boys', taken from 2013's Too Weird To Live! Too Rare To Die! is a literal bisexual banger.
At the time of the song's release back in 2013, Brendon said about the inspiration behind the song, "A lot of times people want to label something just to make themselves feel comfortable. They wanna call this person gay or this person straight. I have had similar experience with homosexuality, with bisexuality, and that's something I feel comfortable talking about."
Anyway, people are losing it over the line on social media.

People are also pointing out that Love, Simon - another LGBTQ teen film released earlier this year - also mentions Panic!
love, simon and alex strangelove: both are movies about being gay in high school, both mention panic! at the disco and some point. @brendonurie look what you're doing :')— ebbers (@ebonugget) June 8, 2018
Also the fact that Alex Strangelove AND Love, Simon use liking panic! At the disco to prove someone is gay has me feeling ATTACKED.— (insert gay nonsense) (@gayandhopeless) June 9, 2018
'Love, Simon' and 'Alex Strangelove' both mentioning Panic At The Disco as a point of reference for determining sexuality. This is the kind of shit I live for. Hit me with that gay shit.— LIZ. (@_lizspier) June 10, 2018
