There Was A Massive "Hotel" Reference In "AHS: Roanoke" That You Probably Missed

And it's all to do with Evan Peters.
Remember when we spilled the tea about that incredible American Horror Story anthology themed episode fan theory? You know the one... Episode 1 was essentially a retelling of Murder House, episode 2 featured some key elements of Asylum and episode 3 was littered with callbacks to Coven.
We may have hit a tiny road bump during episode 4 with a weak reference to the Mott family from Freak Show but things seem to be back on track after episode 5's Hotel vibes and we couldn't possibly scream any louder.

Apart from the obvious 'lets-finally-leave-this-hell-hole-and-go-and-stay-in-a-hotel' connection, there was a pretty sick visual reference that connected Roanoke back to Hotel but you probably missed it because you were too busy freaking out over seeing Evan Peters and his BAE.
Spotted by Reddit user takemewithyer, the episode called back to one of the most terrifying scenes in Hotel...
In Roanoke, Evan Peters' brand spanking new character Edward Mott found himself being eaten alive by a possessed mattress in the middle of the night and he found himself having to climb his way to the surface.

Looks familiar doesn't it?!

There seems to be a lot of similarities between Edward Mott and James March from Hotel. Both are wealthy men who decide to build a house/hotel to protect something that they want to hide. Eventually they end up dead, spending the rest of eternity trapped in their respective buildings as ghosts. Oh, and they've both got dodgy-ass accents too. But what does it all mean?
So it's safe to say that the anthology episode theory has been confirmed. Now we sit and wait for the big twist heading our way next week in episode six and by the looks of things, it's got something to do with the production crew of the "My Roanoke Nightmare" documentary.
If Billie Dean Howard is involved in this, we will scream. And if Jessica Lange shows up as the real life Butcher, be sure to send flowers to our memorial service. See you on the other side of episode six, kids.
