The title season 9 will be AHS: 1984 and will follow an '80's cabin slasher horror vibe. The season will premiere on Wednesday 18th September at 10pm on FX.
It's also been confirmed that Evan Peters will NOT be part of season 9. This will be the first season without him. Sarah Paulson does appear to be returning this season - but not in a major role. It is unclear how many episodes she will be in.
Here's the latest news about American Horror Story season 9...
What is the theme for American Horror Story season 9?
The title for season 9 will be 'AHS: 1984' and will be inspired all those iconic by '80s slasher movies. The trailer features a group of young adults rolling up to Camp Redwood where a slash killer called Mr Jingles has been murdering teens left right and centre.
Some fans have spotted easter eggs that could link the new season to Roanoke but so far, no connections to previous seasons seem to have come up. The trailer mentions a 'patient' at what looks like a mental hospital so connections to Asylum could pop up.
AHS: 1984 premiere date: When will American Horror Story season 9 be released?
It's now been confirmed that AHS: 1984 will premiere on Wednesday September 18th at 10pm on FX. The season will likely follow a similar weekly air date schedule to that of Cult and Apocalypse.

Is Evan Peters in AHS: 1984? Will Sarah Paulson appear?
For the first time in the show's history, Evan Peters will not be part of the new season. He confirmed in March 2019 that he would be "sitting a season out." The news follows his recent "break" that he revealed in an interview with GQ. He later expressed that a return in season 10 is still on the table.
It sounds like Sarah Paulson will be taking a step back from the show this season too. It's been reported that while she will appear, her role will be significantly smaller compared to the main characters she's played over the past three seasons.
Billy Eichner will not be part of the new season either, explaining to a fan that he's unable to take part on Twitter.
Thank you! I can’t do AHS this year but boy oh boy I had a blast and I love all those crazy kids a lot. ❤️ https://t.co/ntnNdombY1— billy eichner (@billyeichner) May 24, 2019
AHS: 1984 plot spoilers - what happens in American Horror Story season 9?
Based on what we've seen in the trailer for 1984, it looks like we're heading for another serial killer season.
Cody Fern's character, an aerobics instructor, gets a job at Camp Redwood and urges his friends to join him. Turns out, Camp Redwood is the sight of "one of the worst summer massacres of all time," carried out by a killer named 'Mr Jingles' who has broken out of a mental hospital. In the summer of '84, the group end up right in the thick of another attack.
While nothing has been made explicitly clear so far, there could be connections to both Asylum and Roanoke weaved into the season.
According to executive producer Tim Minnear, the season will "be really scary but a lot of fun, like it always is. And that if you have a taste for ’80s horror, you’re in for a treat.” (via The Wrap)

Production has officially begun on the ninth season. Filming began in July 2019 ahead of its September 2019 release date. The show maintains a much smaller window between the filming and the airing of the season to avoid leaks or spoilers.
