Lincoln is reportedly set to leave the popular AMC series, and his character Rick Grimes, at some point in season 9.

We hate to be the bearer of bad TV news but it's been reported that one of the most popular and well known leading men is about to leave their equally well known and popular TV show and it's gonna be absolutely brutal.

According to various sources, Andrew Lincoln will be leaving The Walking Dead at the end of season 9, bringing his leading role in AMC's hit series to end after almost 9 years. It's also been reported that Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on the show, will only make a handful of appearances in the ninth season.

To fill the gap left by his departure, Collider reports that AMC has offered "substantial compensation to long-running series star Norman Reedus to not only stay on board, but to take over the show’s leading role."

Over the past few seasons, the show has seen huge backlash from the fandom after the departures of Steven Yeun (Glenn) and Chandler Riggs (Carl) so we're sure it's all gonna kick off once the beloved Rick Grimes makes his final appearance. Fans are already pressed about the possibility of their main character not making it to the finish line.

According to Deadline, sources say Lincoln's Grimes will be phased out of the ninth seasons in a similar way to co-star Lauren Cohan (Maggie), who will only be six episodes of the season before she departs for good too.

No word yet on how he'll actually depart the show but seeing as the majority of characters rarely make it out alive, we guess we'll be seeing you graveside at Rick's funeral????? If he even gets one, that is.
