Avengers: Endgame just broke a huge Rotten Tomatoes record...

Avengers: Endgame is finallly here and the first reviews, reactions and memes signal that it is the most emotional film of the year so far.

Ever since Avengers: Infinity War came out last April, fans have been desperate to see its follow-up. The Marvel film ended with arguably the biggest cliffhanger in blockbuster history. As opposed to ending with the Avengers saving the day as per usual, it finished with Thanos collecting every Infinity Stone and vaporising half of the population of the universe. The movie broke box office records and received huge critical acclaim. What do people think of Endgame though?

The reviews are calling Avengers: Endgame a huge success. Not only does it currently have a critics score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes (the highest for any Marvel film ever alongside Black Panther) but viewers of the first screenings have given it near universal praise, even if it is making them weep. It's no secret that some pretty big Marvel characters die in Endgame and fans are struggling to process the loss of them.

Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian gave the film a perfect score: a five star rating. "I have to admit, in all its surreal grandiosity, in all its delirious absurdity, there is a huge sugar rush of excitement to this mighty finale, finally interchanging with euphoric emotion and allowing us to say poignant farewells." Joe Passmore from Attitude labeled it: "an exhilarating ride unlike any cinematic event that's come before".

Meanwhile, Justin Chang of the LA Times, praised how affecting the deaths are in comparison to Infinity War: “The mass slaughter at the end of ‘Infinity War’ felt both colossal and weightless, insofar as you knew it was little more than an epic tease. But the deaths that transpire here are all the more poignant for feeling both carefully considered and genuinely irreversible."

Vox's Alex Abad-Santos wrote: “Marvel manages to achieve the seemingly impossible in ‘Endgame’: creating a movie steeped in years of lore that still manages to recapture the excitement of watching your very first Marvel experience. ‘Endgame’ is a celebration of, and goodbye to, the superheroes that many of us have grown a decade older with."

Here are just a few of the early fan reactions and memes.

Okay. I'm full on sobbing. BRB gonna go spend three hours in the cinema.

What do you think? Are you excited to see it?
