This is not cool.

There's no question that Avengers: Infinity War is THE biggest blockbuster of 2018. In less than two months, the superhero film has not only become the most successful film of the year so far but it has already become the fourth highest grossing film of all time. Perhaps most importantly though, it's also received huge acclaim from Marvel fans. Despite the fact that it stars a lead cast of almost 30 characters, Infinity War still manages to give each one a moment to shine. It's remarkable.

Nevertheless, in spite of all the accomplishments and accolades, not everyone is pleased. Hawkeye fans were dismayed to find out that the beloved superhero does not feature in the film at all. In fact, some of them were so upset that they sent death threats to the film's directors: Anthony and Joe Russo.

In an interview with USA Today, two time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) revealed the disturbing news. Discussing the huge outrage to Hawkeye not being in the film, Jeremy said: "It’s a nice feeling, I suppose. I think the Russo brothers got way too many death threats. I’m like, “Wow, dude, that’s intense. I’m sorry!”'

As terrible as it is, the news is perhaps unsurprising. An array of Marvel fans were angered as soon as the Infinity War trailers debuted earlier this year without Hawkeye in them. They even set up petitions to get him added to the film promo. We can only imagine how disappointed they were to learn that he wasn't in the film at all. Still none of that disappointment justifies death threats and it's scary how quickly fans can turn on the franchises and artists they love.

Luckily for Hawkeye stans, it looks like the ignored legend will be in Avengers 4. When asked about the highly anticipated sequel to Infinity War, Renner said: "Everybody’s got to bite their tongue. But if you like Infinity War, there’s some stuff to come. What I do know is it’s going to be awesome." Amazing.

To make things even more exciting, there are also rumours of a standalone Hawkeye film. With all of this in mind, it seems like Hawkeye fans have plenty to be excited about. Let's hope the death threats stop.
