Will there be a Bird Box sequel on Netflix?

Will there ever be a Bird Box 2? There's been no confirmation from Netflix yet but there's certainly room for a follow up movie with Sandra Bullock returning as Malorie.
Excuse me, do you have a moment to talk about Bird Box, one of the best horror films of the year? Yes? Great, let's talk then. The new Netflix movie starring Sandra Bullock has truly taken over the internet this holiday season. The gripping and emotionally taxing horror has left people wanting more and it's now got people wondering: will there ever be a Bird Box sequel?
So far, Netflix have yet to confirm - or even hint, for that matter - whether or not they will go ahead with a sequel to the movie. The film has had mixed reviews amongst critics but the conversation on social media is saying otherwise. Memes about the movie have taken over Twitter, people are falling in love with Sandy B all over again (some of them falling in love for the first time, apparently) and viewers literally cannot get enough of the story.
While the film wrapped up the storyline fairly neatly, there seems to be some potential for a follow up. But what would that look like, and would it involve Josh Malerman's follow up novel 'Mad Black Wheel'? Let's investigate...
Will there be a Bird Box sequel?
In case you didn't know, Bird Box is an adaptation of Josh Malerman's 2014 novel of the same name. His 2017 follow up book is titled 'Black Mad Wheel' and while it's not a sequel to 'Bird Box', it does run along the same sort of 'sensory' lines.
While 'Bird Box' focused on the loss of sight, 'Black Mad Wheel' is about "a group of musicians conscripted by the US government to track down the source of a strange and debilitating sound." Basically, instead of not being able to see for fear of dying, this one is all about not being able to hear.
But that's a completely different story that doesn't involve Malorie and her kids. As for an ~actual~ sequel to Bird Box? Well, as we know from the end of the film, the survivors may be safe in the sanctuary but the monsters are still a looming threat. If a sequel is ever written and picked up by Netflix, it could potentially tell the story of life inside the sanctuary. Supplies and shelter from the monsters surely won't last forever, right?
But then again, all that sounds a bit bleak. Do we really wanna make international treasure Sandra Bullock and those two adorable kids go through all that again? No. We don't.
Other narratives that the sequel could focus on? Well, there's the small matter of a huge 5 year time jump in the movie. After all we've been through, we deserve to see how Malorie and Tom got together and raised those kids. We could also explore the several other survivor camps that surely exist in the world and how they managed to escape the monster. We could take a deep dive into the origin of the creatures - a prequel, if you will.
We could even flash forward several years and revisit Tom (Boy) and Olympia (Girl) as adults, who are now actively trying to save the world once and for all. (Honestly, if the world is going to be saved, Girl is totally gonna be the one to do it, don't @ me.)
Like we said, there's no confirmation of a sequel in the works at Netflix just yet but there's plenty of possibilities. What do you think? Do you want to see a sequel to Bird Box? Or should it just be left alone as it is?
