This is how many accounts watched 'Bird Box' in its first 7 days.

If you've been on social media in the last couple of weeks, you might get the impression that Bird Box has been a bit of a hit for Netflix. The memes alone should give you an indication that Bird Box has been resonating strongly with audiences.

The film, which stars Sandra Bullock, Trevonte Rhodes, John Malkovich, and Danielle Macdonald is about an invisible entity that makes people hallucinate and leads them to commit suicide. Netflix are notoriously tight lipped about their viewing figures but have revealed just how many user accounts tuned in to watch the terrifying thriller in its first week.

In a tweet from Netflix's official account, the streaming platform revealed that 45,037,125 accounts watched Bird Box in its first 7 days.

45 million in its first week is obviously huge and Netflix also revealed that it was the "best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film". As many pointed out, with the amount of viewers who share accounts, there really is no telling how many actual people have seen Bird Box. It could be a great deal more than 45 million.

Bird Box memes took off shortly after the film arrived on Netflix which likely contributed to its early success. Fan reactions to the film's premise, cast, and tense moments lit up the internet over the holidays as Bird Box became an end-of-year social media phenomenon.

According to Netflix's Q4 data, the streaming platform reached 137 million subscribers earlier this year. It's not clear what 45,037,125 viewers would mean in box office numbers but it is undoubtedly a sizeable portion of its existing subscriber base.

What do you guys think? Were you among the 45+ million that watched Bird Box in its first week?
