Brie Larson's response to the trolls who think Captain Marvel should 'smile more' is truly one of the best things I've ever seen.

Hello and welcome to season 84 of 'This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things'. In today's episode, Brie Larson finds herself clapping back against sexist Twitter users who complained that Captain Marvel doesn't smile enough. Yes. Seriously.

In case you haven't heard, the trailer for Captain Marvel, Marvel's very first female-led solo movie, dropped on September 18 and has already amassed an incredible 109 million+ plays across several platforms within the first 24 hours of release. The film, starring Oscar winner Larson, is set for release in March 2019.

But as expected with anything involving a badass woman from the Marvel franchise, it was met with completely unnecessary sexist backlash.

Despite the incredible reaction to the trailer, there has been quite a large influx of (mostly) male Twitter users complaining about the lack of warmth and excitement in Brie Larson's facial expressions because heaven forbid a woman doesn't crack a smile when she's trying to fight a fucking war on a planet she doesn't remember.

Complaints ranged from tweets about Brie's apparent limited range of emotions (it's a two minute teaser trailer for a two hour movie, sweetheart) to people actually photoshopping smiles onto screenshots of Carol Danvers' face in the trailer and saying it looks 'better'.

.

In retaliation to the backlash, fans then flocked to Twitter to point out that most of the men in the Marvel and DC franchises have also used the same stern facial expression in their movies as Brie did in her trailer. They also pointed out that the reinforcing of these toxic gender stereotypes aren't helpful at all. Basically, several points were made.

.

Of course, once Brie caught wind of the comments, she responded to each and every one by posting a few pictures on her Instagram story... of the Marvel men... who are absolutely not smiling... in any of the promotional pictures depicting their superhero characters in similarly intense situations.

.

Academy Award-winning Brie Larson doesn't have time for your sexist bullshit, she's got a multi-million dollar franchise to headline. Bye xoxo
