Director Luca Guadagnino confirmed that Elio and Oliver will be back.

It’s official: Call Me By Your Name is getting a sequel! It's been confirmed by director Luca Guadagnino that the 2017 coming-of-age-drama, which just won Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars, will revisit Timothee Chalamet's Elio and Armie Hammer's Oliver "five or six years" in the future.

Seeing as the original movie was based on André Aciman’s 2007 novel of the same name, the sequel will be a completely new story. Speaking to USA Today, Guadagnino revealed some details about what will happen in terms of storyline and confirmed that Aciman will also be involved with the writing.

“I’m already conceiving the story with [author] André Aciman,” Guadagnino said. “It’s gonna happen five or six years afterwards, so almost in the 1990s. It’s gonna be a new movie, a different tone. You’re gonna see a lot of the East Coast of America… They’re gonna go around the world.”

Elio and Oliver? Back together? Travelling the world? What's gonna happen? Will Marzia be there? (Who cares...) I miss Italy already. I'm too emotional for this.

There's no release date for the movie just yet. All Guadagnino teased was that once they have a great script, they'll start thinking about when production will begin. He's also previously said that he plans for Elio and Oliver's story to be a "decades-long" series.

All we know is, we're ready for our hearts to be destroyed once again.
