Fans reacted to Chris Evans' emotional Captain America tweet with the saddest and most relatable memes.

If you somehow missed the news that Chris Evans is more than likely hanging up his Captain America shield, you might want to sit down for this one because it's pretty emotional. Yesterday (Oct 4), Chris Evans tweeted a heartfelt goodbye (?) of sorts, as filming wrapped for his character on the upcoming Avengers 4 movie.

Now, Chris never actually says "goodbye" in this tweet, but "thank you for the memories" and "playing this role over the last 8 years..." sounds a lot like goodbye language to moi.

Many have speculated that the actor would likely be moving on after a series of interviews over the last year that have cast doubt on his continued involvement in the MCU.

It goes without saying but fans are...distraught and meme-ing their sorrows.

Some folks are straight up in their feelings about Captain America's apparent retirement.

The memes perfectly sum up the emotional journey of reading Chris' tweet. After all these years of being unproblematic and handsome, it's safe to say that fans are already anticipating their Avengers 4 emotions.

Some wondered if Chris had given the whole game away with this tweet.

It's unclear whether Captain America will be dying (DON'T PLAY WITH ME MARVEL), or simply taking an extended vacation in the Maldives. However, it's still going to be tough to let go.

Some fans even wondered what his fellow Avengers' faces would look like once they read his tweet.

Your fave Ryan Reynolds even had some feelings to work through.

Overall, I think it's safe to say that we're all suffering.

Chris Evans is maybe probably saying goodbye to this iconic role and the memes are far too real. Everybody get your Avengers 4 tissues ready because your unproblematic Marvel boyfriend has (probably) left the building.
