Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, is back with a brand new animated show

Disenchantment, the new animated show from Matt Groening, the creator of both The Simpsons and Futurama is coming to Netflix this summer. The project has been in the works for some time now, but has now just been given an official release date of August 17th. This will be the first new major animated project from Groening since Futurama debuted all the way back in 1999.

Along with the release date, Netflix also gave us our first look at the characters, which you can see here:

What is Disenchantment about?

The show is set in crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, the series will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess named Bean (Abbie Jacobson), her feisty elf companion Elfo (Nat Faxon), and her personal demon Luci (Eric Andre). Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

20 episodes of the show will be released this year, in two 10 episode chunks.

Who is in the voice cast?

Alongside the main voice cast, there will also be appearances from John DiMaggio (who voices Bender in Futurama), Billy West (who voices Fry in Futurama), Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille (who does a series of smaller Simpsons characters), David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery.

None of the main Simpsons cast appear to be taking part, at least in this first season. However, with the massive salaries that those actors receive, it's not that surprising.

Are there any trailers?
