Is Rue dead on Euphoria?
We're a few episodes into Euphoria and it's been a wild ride so far. Despite recently coming out of a treatment centre, Rue hasn't been strictly committed to staying sober and out of trouble.
One clue that fans have picked up on is the fact that Rue seemingly knows everything about everyone. As Clarkisha Kent of Entertainment Weekly points out, Rue has unusually broad knowledge of each character, telling elaborate back stories that a normal narrator might not necessarily know.
Rue knows detailed secrets about characters, their families, things they do when they're alone. That might be our biggest clue, so far.
i don’t know why i suddenly became concerned, wondering how rue knows everyone’s stories. IS RUE DEAD?!?!?? #EuphoriaHBO pic.twitter.com/zFV5atFXOB— 𝔰𝔬𝔩𝔦𝔩𝔬𝔮𝔲𝔶-𝔦𝔰𝔪 (@type2_introvert) July 8, 2019
We know that, at this point in Rue's story, she's actually survived an accidental overdose. However, the way she and other characters are focused on her mortality does come off as strange–and fans have noticed.
All the characters are constantly referencing Rue dying or "killing herself" through her actions in a way that almost suggests that it is a foregone conclusion.
just a theory, don’t come at me - but in the pilot everyone kept saying— 𝐄🕊 || in Fezco, i stan (@_xandaya) June 22, 2019
“isn’t rue dead?”
“i thought you were dead”
“didn’t she die?”
what if Rue really died from her overdose and is just telling the story of when she was alive and maybe what led up to her death 😳 #euphoria
but hold up.... the line rue said about hating fez until she dies makes me think she actually *is* dead & narrating from her grave #feelEUPHORIA pic.twitter.com/6XlWSfIUNm— ༺ michelle (@monsesjournal) July 1, 2019
So far, the internet's prevailing Euphoria theory that Rue is merely narrating events leading up to her death is a compelling one.
And it would certainly be a fascinating twist.
Rue's story does take on a surreal quality at times and our guess is that there is definitely more to uncover about the character.
I got a theory about #Euphoria. I think Rue’s been dead this whole time and is telling us the complete story of how her death went down. pic.twitter.com/iDCPVnVy8c— Pussy pink breast cancer🎀 (@harryth0tter) July 2, 2019
