Inject this trailer into my veins.

If you’re looking to fill the Drag Race shaped hole in your life then we’ve got good news, as the trailer for the movie adaption of the hit West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie has just dropped and it looks sickening.

The film follows the story of Jamie New, a 16-year old closeted school boy in Sheffield who dreams of becoming a drag queen and wants to go to his school’s prom in drag. Jamie has to overcome prejudice from his own family and school, and beat the bullies to fully realise his dreams.

The film stars newcomer Max Harwood in the lead role as Jamie, while comedy actress Sharon Horgan will play his teacher and acting royalty Richard E. Grant as his drag mentor.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is based on the real life story of Jamie Campbell, who appeared in a 2011 BBC Three documentary called Jamie: Drag Queen at 16, which followed his journey after he decided to wear a dress to prom and the subsequent fall out when his teachers tried to ban him.

The documentary came about after there were concerns about Jamie’s safety, and he thought that people would be less likely to beat him up or cause too much trouble if the whole thing was being filmed.

When Jamie’s drag plans were discovered by other parents, who then complained to the school, Jamie was told by the school he could not come to the prom in a dress. He ignored them and turned up in a dress anyway, and arrived to cheers from his peers but the teachers wouldn’t let him in.

When the students inside started to hear about what was happening, they came to his defence and begged the teachers to let him in until eventually he was allowed in.

The story was developed into a musical in Sheffield before moving to the West End in 2017, where it would still be running today were it not for coronavirus. Several celebrities have made appearances in the musical, including RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and season six winner Bianca Del Rio.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie will be release in theatres February 26th.
