Gypsy is reportedly now engaged to a prison pen pal she met after the events of Hulu's The Act...

The real Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who Hulu's The Act is based on, has reportedly got engaged in prison.

Ever since The Act debuted this March, viewers have been gripped by Gypsy Rose Blanchard's true story. The new drama is based on the real life events that led Gypsy (played by Joey King) to kill her mother Dee Dee. Dee Dee made Gyspy pretend to suffer from multiple diseases and abused her for multiple years. Gypsy is currently in prison for Dee Dee's murder but thousands of people are petitioning for her release. Now People is reporting that Gypsy is engaged.

According to People, "earlier this year the 27-year-old quietly announced to family and friends that she and her boyfriend are getting married". The magazine then went on to explain: "The couple has known each other for a year and a half and started dating after meeting as pen pals while Blanchard was behind bars." The publication also interviewed Gypsy's family friend, Fancy Macelli, who broke the news.

Speaking to People, Fancy said: “They are very happy. You can hear excitement in her voice." Gyspy's fiancé apparently first wrote to Gypsy after seeing her 2017 documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest. Fancy says that, while Gypsy's family are yet to meet Gypsy's fiancé they "approve of the engagement" and have "spoken to him on the phone". They also "plan to meet next month".

Discussing the relationship, Fancy stated that she believes that it's "a good thing" for Gypsy. She then added: "And whether it ends up being that way in the end no one knows, but for her right now it’s a very positive and happy time." She explained: "She’s 27-years-old, she deserves to be in love and she deserves to have somebody who cares about her. He's there for her."

Fancy also says that Gypsy's new relationship is "one of love and mutual respect" and very different to her relationship with her ex Nick Godejohn, who killed Dee Dee after Gypsy asked him to. Speaking to Dr Phil in 2017 about Nick, Gypsy said that "he had multiple personalities that were violent and scary". Nick is currently serving a life sentence in prison.

As it stands, Gypsy is serving a 10 year prison sentence and will be eligible for parole in 2024. Fancy reports that she plans to get married to her fiancé after she is released.
