Fans of the boy wizard are demanding refunds after their free gifts went missing and they were left to wait hours to get a drink.
Harry Potter fans are demanding refunds after a Hogwarts-themed pub crawel descended into so much chaos, it has been compared online to the equally disastrous Fyre Festival.
Buzzfeed reports that the 'Wizard And Wand' event in Raleigh, North Carolina, promised that attendees would get all manner of swag and free drinks included in their ticket price, which ranged from $15 early bird passes to upwards of $40 nearer the event. Around 3,300 people showed up on the day in the "largest private event [downtown Raleigh] has ever seen" according to organiser Zack Medford.
However, problems immediately began when the 'Hogwarts scarves' every attendee was supposed to receive never showed up, apparently due to a vendor failing to deliver the product from China.
So, instead, organisers prepared an alternative gift - a wand that many people have since described as a "chopstick dipped in wax".
Furthermore, the drinks offerings were also deemed disappointing by some, with complimentary butterbeer served in tiny cups and syrupy in consistency. The free 'welcoming shot' was also said to taste like cough syrup or Kool Aid by patrons on social media.
But the biggest complaint of all was about wait times, with attendees waiting in line for 2 hours to get into a bar. In response, Medford said that "a handful of people missed the idea that it's a bar crawl — the point is to bounce around at different bars".
No refunds are being issued and greatcrawl, the company behind the event, plan on staging a similar HP-themed party in the future.
