Watch Joey King in the trailer for the chilling new Hulu series, heading to the streaming platform March 20.

The trailer for The Act has arrived and Joey King and Patricia Arquette star in the first look at the chilling new series. Fresh off the success of last year's runaway Netflix hit The Kissing Booth, Joey King's latest role in Hulu's The Act is based on the dark true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee Blanchard, who Gypsy killed in June 2015.

You may recall that Joey shaved her head for the role and the emotional first trailer will have you hooked from its opening shot.

Watch the trailer for The Act below.

The trailer shows the dramatised life of the the seemingly close mother and daughter. "My mom is my best friend," Joey's character says in the trailer. "All she wants to do is keep me safe." The eery trailer then shows Gypsy Rose being tied to a bed post looking more and more unhappy.

Joey plays the then 23-year-old woman convicted of her mother's 2015 murder. The story made headlines at the time and subsequent interviews with the real life Gypsy (as well as a 2016 Buzzfeed article) later detailed the tragic story of Dee Dee and Gypsy Blanchard.

Gypsy recounts suffering abuse from her mother who reportedly forced her to pretend she had various medical conditions including Leukaemia, asthma, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, and other health challenges.

True crime fans should put The Act on their watch list and keep their eyes peeled for the show, which is headed to Hulu on March 20.
