Kristen Stewart is starring in a queer Christmas rom-com

Romantic comedies are having a real moment right now.
This year we've laughed and cried at Love, Simon, The Kissing Booth and To All the Boys I Loved Before, which might even be getting a sequel. But there's one thing all these films are missing… a queer festive twist! Thankfully, Kristen Stewart will deliver the answers to our prayers, playing the lead in holiday rom-com, Happiest Season.
Indiewire confirmed that a holiday season rom-com centred on a queer woman is in the not-so-distant future and the only question is, what took SO long? The story will follow a queer woman who plans to propose to her girlfriend while the couple are visiting family for Christmas. But before she gets the chance to pop the question, the woman learns that her girlfriend still hasn't come out to her super conservative parents. Cue the tears, family tantrums and hopefully lots of queer visibility.
Kristen will be working alongside Clea DuVall, Happiest Season's co-writer, director and a lesbian herself. Meanwhile, Kristen – who hasn't labelled her sexuality – has dated both women and men in the past.
"If you feel like you really want to define yourself, and you have the ability to articulate those parameters and that in itself defines you, then do it," she told Nylon in 2015 about defining her sexuality. "But I am an actress, man. I live in the fucking ambiguity of this life and I love it." She added: "I think in three or four years, there are going to be a whole lot more people who don’t think it’s necessary to figure out if you’re gay or straight. It’s like, just do your thing."
That aside, we're about to see Kristen in a rom-com. A ROM-COM, people. If you're up to speed on Kristen's career, this is going to be a huge change for her. She's currently filming for the new Charlie's Angels flick, which is out next year. Meanwhile, her previous acting credits include Personal Shopper, Snow White and the Huntsman, and of course, Twilight.
There's no word yet on when Happiest Season will be released or who else will be joining the cast, but according to IMDb the flick is in the "pre-production" stage. We're already expecting a lot from this.
