A new Mean Girls movie is on its way and it sounds totally fetch.

The legacy of Mean Girls is so great that even over fifteen years since it was originally released (yes, you’re that old!), quotes and GIFs from the film still make their way onto social media and into our everyday conversations on a regular basis.

But here’s something that any loyal Mean Girls fan will find totally fetch - Mean Girls the musical, which is based on the 2004 film, is being turned back into a film.

In a move that’s pretty meta, the producers of the Broadway musical have confirmed that the stage show is set to get a movie adaptation, meaning that Mean Girls the Musical is going to become Mean Girls: The Musical: The Film.

In a statement, Tina Fey - who adapted the book 'Queen Bees and Wannabes' into the original film and later brought it to the stage - said in a statement: "I'm very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen.”

“It's been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I've spent sixteen years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.”

The original film starred Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron and Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert as ‘The Plastics’, a group of popular girls who rule their high school and take down anyone who gets in their way.

It was turned into a musical in 2017 and opened on Broadway in 2018. It’s expected that the musical will come to London’s West End in 2021.

There’s no word yet on exactly when the film will be released, but you can bet once it is out, we’ll only be saying one thing: “Get in loser, we’re going to see Mean Girls: The Musical: The Movie”.
