Why are we low-key into this idea?

Remember when super 'deep' ballads by alt rock bands were a thing in the early 00s? Who can forget those blissful years crying in your bedroom to The Fray's 'How To Save A Life' or Blink 182's 'I Miss You'. It was truly the best and worst of times.

Well, now arguably the most iconic song of them all is being turned into a TV show.

As reported by THR, The Plain White T's 'Hey There Delilah' is being adapted into a scripted TV series. The song, which went to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (No.2 in the UK), is being developed into a scripted romantic dramedy about a long-distance relationship.

The script is currently in development and will be pitched to multiple networks later this month by the producers of the project, which include the band's frontman Tom Higgenson as well as writer Jeremy Desmon. So no release date yet but hopefully we'll get one soon.

Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah

We're crying in the club.

Speaking about the project to THR, Tom Higgenson said: "It’s been more than a decade since 'Hey There Delilah' was released, and people always ask me about it. A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I’m very proud of that. I’m so excited to have an opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project.”

The song, which was released in 2006, follows a long-distance flirtationship between a struggling singer-songwriter and a girl who's moved to New York to study. Tom wrote the song about professional runner Delilah DiCrescenzo, whom he was introduced to at a party by a mutual friend. Although Delilah had a boyfriend, Tom decided to write a song for her anyway and started performing it with his band. It soon became a fan favourite but it wasn't until a couple years later that it became a chart-topping song.

Though Tom and Delilah never dated, when the song was nominated for a Grammy for Song of the Year in 2008, he called Delilah and invited her to go to the ceremony with him - and she went! Here's a pic of them together with the rest of the band at the ceremony.

Read the full lyrics to 'Hey There Delilah' below:

Hey there, Delilah
What's it like in New York city?
I'm a thousand miles away
But, girl, tonight you look so pretty
Yes, you do
Times Square can't shine as bright as you
I swear, it's true
Hey there, Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice, it's my disguise
I'm by your side
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
What you do to me
Hey there, Delilah
I know times are gettin' hard
But just believe me, girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good

Hey there, Delilah
I've got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
And we'd just laugh along because we'd know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah, I can promise you
That by the time that we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame
Hey there, Delilah
You be good, and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be makin' history like I do
You know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there, Delilah, here's to you
This one's for you
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
What you do to me, oh oh, woah, woah
Oh woah, oh
Oh
