The gay sex scene in Rocketman has inspired the funniest NSFW thirst tweets about Taron Egerton and Richard Madden.

Rocketman has been met with critical acclaim ever since it was released this month (May 22). The Elton John biopic beautifully depicts Elton's rise to superstardom and also addresses his issues with addiction in some incredibly frank and moving ways. Viewers are also praising the film for putting Elton's gay identity front and centre. It's actually made history as the first major motion picture to feature a gay sex scene and, perhaps unsurprisingly, people are thirsting over it... a lot.

Rocketman heavily explores the romantic relationship between Elton (Taron Egerton) and John Reid (Richard Madden). John was Elton's music manager and lover near the start of his career. The movie demonstrates how much Elton loved John and how things soured between the two of them, as it became clear that John cared more about the money he made through Elton than Elton himself.

Shortly after Elton and John meet, Rocketman shows the first time that they have sex together. The scene includes nudity, kissing and simulated oral and anal sex. It's poignant, it's hot and the entire internet is thirsting over it. One review that went viral includes the already iconic phrase: "if you're a menopausal old hound looking for a boost in the fanjo, go watch this on loop".

Here are just a few of the hilarious reactions.

Incredible. Thirst aside, the scene is extremly important. Elton John actually fought to include the scene in Rocketman. While award winning art movies, like Brokeback Mountain, have featured gay sex scenes before, Rocketman is the first by a major studio to do it. In a piece for the Guardian, Elton wrote: "They wanted to tone down the sex and drugs. But I haven’t led a PG-13 life".

Here's hoping that Rocketman can inspire other major studios to not shy away from queer sex.
