Ruby Rose Makes History As Batwoman In The CW’s ‘Arrowverse'

The 'Orange Is the New Black' star will play Batwoman in The CW's Arrowverse...

Kate Kane has long been a beloved superhero for DC Comics fans. She first appeared in 1956 but was later re-introduced to the DC universe in 2006. In her new incarnation, she was written as a Jewish lesbian and people were quick to praise DC for the progressive decision. Batwoman immediately became one of the highest profile LGBTQ+ superheroes in the world. And now she is finally getting her own TV series.

A standalone Batwoman series is being developed by The CW as part of the Arrowverse and it is set to air in the 2019-20 TV season. Not only that but the hit US network has just cast Ruby Rose as the titular role. The CW will introduce Ruby as Kate in their highly anticipated Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow crossover event this December and it will take place over three episodes.

This sounds exciting af and we cannot wait to see it and the Batwoman series when it come out. Kate is an icon (an amazing street fighter who puts social justice first) and we think that Ruby is perfect for the role. Not only is she a prominent LGBTQ+ activist and an openly lesbian and gender-fluid star but she has also had major roles in the likes of Orange Is the New Black and Pitch Perfect 3.

Ruby took to Instagram last night to celebrate the incredible news. She wrote: "I’m [-] an emotional wreck... because this is a childhood dream." She then opened up about the importance of the role: "This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different."

Ruby is going to kill it. As it stands, there is no other information about who else will star in the Batwoman series but we shall let you know as soon as there are any updates. This is going to be major.
