A Scream sequel without Neve Campbell is no Scream sequel at all.
Surprise, Sidney! It looks like Scream legend Neve Campbell might actually reprise her role as the iconic horror heroine Sidney Prescott in the upcoming Scream 5 sequel.
Back in November, Deadline confirmed that Scream 5 was in the works at Spyglass with Ready Or Not's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett set to direct the film.
Fans of the franchise understandably had their concerns about another film, particularly about whether or not Neve would return as Sidney. In a new interview, she has now confirmed that she's been approached and is "having conversations" about bringing Sidney back to the big screen.
Speaking to Jake Hamilton about the rumours surrounding Scream 5 and whether or not Sidney would be involved, Neve revealed: “They’ve come to me and we’re having conversations." (Jake's original video tweet seems to have been deleted.)
She continued: "It’s a little hard at the moment because of COVID to know when that’ll happen and hopefully we can see eye to eye on all the elements that have to come into place for it to happen."
Back in 2015, horror extraordinaire Wes Craven tragically passed away at the age of 76. Scream fans have since been wary about rebooting the franchise without his involvement, a concern that Neve also shares.
“I originally had been really apprehensive about doing another Scream without Wes because he was such a genius and he is the reason they are what they are but the directors have come to me with such a great appreciation for Wes’s work and they really want to honor it and that meant a lot to me,” she continued.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to do it.”
So, there you have it. Sidney Prescott may finally return to fight Ghostface another day. Fingers crossed they can make it happen because honestly? We wouldn't want Scream 5 without her.
