'Shadowhunters' Has Been Cancelled And Will End After Season 3

The show's cast and fans have been reacting to the news that 'Shadowhunters' has been axed at Freeform.
Fans of Freeform's Shadowhunters may want to sit down for this one. The supernatural television show based on The Mortal Instruments book series by Cassandra Clare has not been renewed for a fourth season.
Shadowhunters, which has been on the air since 2015, stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Matthew Daddario, and Emeraude Toubia as human-angel hybrid beings charged with keeping the world safe from demons.
In a statement, the network confirmed they had not renewed the series and thanked fans for supporting Shadowhunters.
"We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite. However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The 12 episodes will air in spring 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama."
It's not all bad news, though. The network has confirmed 2 extra episodes and a 2 part finale coming Spring 2019.
Season 3b will conclude next year with plenty of time for the writers to give the beloved characters a proper send off. Meanwhile, the show's stars have been reacting to the news.
Kat McNamara promised fans the "most rock solid, bad ass, magical finale".

Matthew Daddario also reacted to the series' cancellation, calling his time on the show "an absolutely wonderful experience."
It has been an absolutely wonderful experience getting to be part of Shadowhunters for the past three years. After all of it, I hope I have fulfilled my promise of being the best Alec Lightwood you could ask for. Look out for the great work this crew will be doing out of

Many are hoping Netflix will pick up the programme as it has been known to do on occasion. Earlier this year, when Travelers was canceled by its home network, Netflix announced it would be taking over the production and commissioning a third season.
#SaveShadowhunters began trending after the news broke, with many fans expressing disappointment at Freeform's decision not to renew the show.

With season 3b nearly a year away, there is certainly still time for networks to determine Shadowhunters' fate. Whatever is decided, there is no doubt that the fandom is seriously dedicated to the series and its stars.
