Following the death of Spongebob creator Stephen Hillenburg, fans are now sharing their fave moments, episodes and memes from the show on Twitter.
It was reported yesterday that the creator of Spongebob Squarepants, Stephen Hillenburg, passed away at the age of 57 after a battle with ALS. His death was announced in a tweet from Nickelodeon.
After learning of the news, fans immediately took to Twitter to share their memories of the show and to thank Hillenburg for his role in their childhood. From the best episodes to the characters and even the iconic musical numbers featured in the show, Spongebob was beloved by millions. But there was one thing that stood out most about Spongebob, and that was the memes.
Today's meme landscape would be nothing without Hillenburg's work. Barely a month manages to go by without yet another Spongebob meme popping up on the timeline. This year alone, we've seen the Out of Breath Spongebob meme, Evil Patrick meme, Krusty Krab vs. Chum Bucket meme, Suspicious Spongebob meme, the Squidward "y'all hear sum'n" meme... we could go on.
Twitter is now paying tribute to the cartoon creating legend by sharing some of the most iconic memes and moments that the show has given us over the years. Here are the best ones:

- selling chocolate.
- delivering pizza with a less-than-enthusiastic Squidward.
- meeting THE hash-slinging slasher.
Thank you, Stephen Hillenburg.
