Is Destiel canon, yes or no? Supernatural leaves fans in disbelief after dramatic season 15 episode. [This article contains spoilers!]

Alright, who had Supernatural making Destiel (sort of) canon on their 2020 apocalypse bingo card?

After a brief pandemic delay, the final episodes of Supernatural returned in October. Last night (Nov 5), the third from last episode of the series aired on The CW and fans across the world are having some very intense mixed feelings over what the hell just happened.

A major character death and a Castiel confession have caused a huge reaction online, with the show managing to trend on Twitter amid all the election news. And if you're here wondering what Putin has to do with all of this, allow us to explain.

Supernatural's Destiel bombshell appeared to drop at the same time as reports of Putin reportedly resigning. Now, the memes have merged. If you have no idea what's going on, here's everything you need to know.

If you haven't been keeping up with Supernatural, here's what happened: After Billie threatens to kill Castiel and Dean, Castiel realises that he can save Dean by sacrificing his own life. In order to do so, Castiel uses the deal he made with The Empty (he can live until the moment he's truly happy) and then confesses how he truly feels about him.

In the scene, Castiel makes a speech to Dean, saying: "I never found an answer because the one thing I want is something I know I can’t have. But I think I know now happiness isn’t in the having. It’s in just being. It's in just saying it."

"Ever since I pulled you out of hell, knowing you has changed me. Because you cared, I cared. I cared about you, I cared about Sam, I cared about Jack. But I cared about the whole world because of you. You changed me, Dean.”

Dean then asks Cas why it sounds like he's saying goodbye and he replies: "Because it is. I love you... Goodbye, Dean."

People are absolutely losing it over Castiel's confession. After years of shipping the two characters, many fans are emotional...

However, some fans aren't all that happy with the way that the show went about the big Destiel reveal. Shortly after confessing his love to Dean, Castiel died after being taken by The Empty.

After baiting fans with the ship for years and never really seeing anything played out, many fans are calling out the show and bringing up the 'Bury Your Gays' TV trope.

Ultimately, the Supernatural fandom seem to be praising Misha Collins' delivery of Castiel's final speech to Dean.

On Twitter, Misha reacted to the scene, writing: "Tonight, watching Cas talk to Dean, I got lost in the story and forgot for a moment that I'm the one who plays that angel and I thought, "He's how I want to be. He's openhearted and he's selfless and he's true."
