Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have bid goodbye to the series with emotional Instagram posts.

It's the end of an era. The final episode of Supernatural has been filmed and the cast are taking to social media to honour it.

Supernatural is one of the biggest TV shows of all time. Ever since the first season came out back in 2004, fans have been obsessed with demon-hunting brothers, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester, and their antics as they protect people from supernatural forces. Over the past 15 years, 327 episodes have been filmed.

In 2019, The CW announced that Supernatural season 15 would be the show's last season, and yesterday (Sep 11) marked Supernatural's last day of filming ever. Unsurprisingly, both Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles got very emotional.

Taking to Instagram first, Jared shared a teary-eyed selfie with the caption: "Well, here goes... I write this as I head to my last day of #Supernatural. My last day with #SamWinchester. Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock."

He then added "Thank y’all SO MUCH for the incredible amount of love and support that’s been headed our way, in these final hours. It’s definitely been felt. I’ll check in soon, but, for now, #WeHaveWorkToDo".

Mere moments later, Jensen joined in with his own post. He wrote: "Woke up at 6am this morning. That alarm went off with a heavy tone. Today is the final day of a 15 year journey. One that has changed my life forever. To those I have worked with on this journey and to those who have watched and supported... you will never understand my great appreciation for you."

He went ont: "“Thank you” doesn’t cover it. There just aren’t words. I’m so grateful for these memories that I will carry with me forever. What a ride it has been. And what a run. #spnfamilyforever here are a few shots from our final days... including today."

He ended his post writing: "I’ll try and send more later, but in true SPN form... we are in the middle of “nowhere” and have zero service. Go figure. Stay tuned."

No. I'm not crying. You are!

Supernatural will return to The CW with its final seven episodes on October 8.
